A) For reviewing declension: The following verse contains all declension forms in the singular for गुरु m.:

गुरुरेव गतिर्गुरुमेव भजे
गुरुणैव सहास्मि नमो गुरवे
गुरोः परमं शिशुरस्मि गुरोर्
मतिरस्ति गुरौ मम पाहि गुरो

My teacher is my refuge,
I worship my teacher,
I am with my teacher,
Reverence to my teacher,
There is nothing higher than the teacher,
I am the child of my teacher,
My heart is with my teacher,
Teacher, protect me!


B) Translations

मनुस्मृति , १७८

येनास्य पितरो याता
येन याताः पितामहाः
तेन यायात्सतां मार्गम्
तेन गच्छन्न रिष्यते

One should walk on the path of the good, on which the fathers have walked, on which the grandfathers have walked. If one walks on this path, then one suffers no harm.

मनुस्मृति , ६३

कुविवाहैः क्रियालोपैर्
वेदानध्ययनेन
कुलान्यकुलतां यान्ति
ब्राह्मणातिक्रमेण

Families become non-families through bad marriages, through omission of rituals, through non-study of the Vedas, and through transgression against Brahmins.

मनुस्मृति , ६०

संतुष्टो भार्यया भर्ता
भर्त्रा भार्या तथैव
यस्मिन्नेव कुले नित्यम्
कल्याणं तत्र वै ध्रुवम्

A family in which the husband is always content with the wife and the wife with the husband, in such a family, constant happiness is certain.

मनुस्मृति , ७५ - ७६: On the necessity of sacrifice

स्वाध्याये नित्ययुक्तः स्याद्
दैवे चैवेह कर्मणि
दैवे कर्मणि युक्तो हि
बिभर्तीदं चराचरम्

अग्नौ प्रास्ताहुतिः सम्यग्
आदित्यमुपतिष्ठते
आदित्याज्जायते वृष्टिर्
वृष्टेरन्नं ततः प्रजाः

One should always engage in Vedic study and in rituals for the gods. For one who engages in rituals for the gods, indeed obtains this world of animate and inanimate things. The sacrifice that is properly thrown into the fire goes to the sun, from the sun rain arises, from rain food arises, from that creatures arise.

योगसूत्र , १६ - १७

हेयं दुःखमनागतम्
द्रष्टृदृश्ययोः संयोगो हेयहेतुः

Future suffering is to be abandoned.
The cause of this abandoner is the connection of the seer and the seen [= perceiver and perceived].


कौटिलीयार्थशास्त्र , १५: On Advisors of the King

किंचिदवमन्येत
सर्वस्य शृणुयान्मतम्
बालस्याप्यर्थवद्वाक्यम्
उपयुन्जीत पाण्डितः

[The King] should not disdain anything; he should listen to the opinion of everyone. A scholar also adopts the word of a boy, if it is significant.


मनुस्मृति , १४० - १४२: Definition of आचार्य, उपाध्याय, गुरु

उपनीय तु यः शिष्यं
वेदमध्यापयेद्द्द्विजः
सकल्पं सरहस्यं
तमाचार्यां प्रचक्षते

Ācārya is called the Twice-born who gives Upanayana to the student and then teaches him the Veda, the ritual, and the esoteric doctrine.

एकदेशं तु वेदस्य
वेदाङ्गान्यपि वा पुनः
यो ऽध्यापयति वृत्त्यर्थम्
उपाध्यायः उच्यते १०

Upādhyāya is called the one who, for the sake of his livelihood, teaches a part of the Veda or the auxiliary sciences.

निषेकादीनि कर्माणि
यः करोति यथाविधि
संभावयति चान्नेन
विप्रो गुरुरुच्यते ११

Guru is called the Brāhmaṇa who performs Niṣeka and the other rituals according to the rules and causes him to arise through food.
