55.1. अ-लुङ् (सस्वरः लुङ्)

The a-aorist is formed like an imperfect (लङ्) of the 6th present class (तुदादि), i.e.:

Augment + root in zero-grade + a + secondary ending

The -a- is replaced by -ā- in the same cases as in the imperfect.

No nasal infix.

The Ātmanepada is rare; for Ubhayapada roots it is usually formed according to other aorist classes (see Kielhorn, Grammar §340 and below under the corresponding aorist classes).

List of roots that have this aorist, in Kielhorn, Grammar §340.

सिच् 6U "to sprinkle"

Irregular formations:

अस् 4P "to throw": sig[आस्थम्, आस्थत्] (Explanation see Thumb-Hauschild §541,4)

ख्या + 2P "to tell": sig[अख्यम्, अख्यत्]

दृश् "to see": sig[अदर्शम्, अदर्शत्] (Strong grade!)

Note:

शास् 2P "to command": अशिषत् (regular weak grade!)
