A Past Participle Parasmaipada is formed as follows:
PPP + -vant / fem.: vatī
Declension like the stems in -vant or f. देवी
PPP + -vant / fem.: vatī
Declension like the stems in -vant or f. देवी
Examples:
कृतवन्त् (kṛta-vant) / कृतवती "one who has done"
भिन्नवन्त् "one who has split"
The तद्धित-suffix -maya / f.: -mayī forms adjectives from nouns with the meaning
Before -maya (as before -मात्र), final plosives must be replaced by their corresponding nasal in pause form.
Examples:
अन्नमय 3 "rich in food"
चिन्मय 3 (to चित् f. "Intellect") "consisting of thought / mind"
वाङ्मय 3 (to वाच् f. "Language") "consisting of speech"
सोममय 3 "made of Soma, consisting of Soma"
Nouns in -maya are occasionally used as neuter substantives and then denote an abundance of what is designated by the substantive to which -maya is appended.
e.g. अन्नमय n. "abundance of food"

Fig.: अन्नमयम् विवाहः, Chennai = சென்னை
(Bildekilde: Detaljer)
The तद्धित-suffix -eya / f.: -eyī occurs, among other things, on feminines in the sense of
Guna stage (वृद्धि) of the first vowel.
e.g. कौन्तेय m. "Son of the कुन्ती"

Fig.: भीमः कौन्तेयः
Wayang figure, Java, Indonesia

The adverbial suffix -śas forms adverbs of (mainly) distributive meaning from:
Numeral words
Examples:
एकशस् "one by one, each one"
द्विशस् "two by two, each two"
शतशस् "by hundreds, each hundred"
other words
Examples:
भागशस् "part by part"
सर्वशस् "everywhere, all without exception"
नित्यशस् "constantly"

Before the roots
Nouns and adjectives can be placed as preverbs to express that someone makes a person or thing into it, or that a person or thing becomes what is designated by that noun.
The final sound of the noun is treated as follows:
The final sound of the noun is treated as follows:
**final -a and -ā of declinable words are replaced by -ī **
Examples:
कृष्णीभवति "something that is not black becomes black"
कृष्णीकरोति "he makes something that is not black, black"
गङ्गीभवति "he/she becomes the Ganges"
**final -i and -u are replaced by the corresponding long vowel **
Examples:
शुचीभवति "he/she/it becomes pure"
गुरूभवामि "I become master"
**final -ṛ is replaced by --rī **
e.g. पित्रीभवति "one who is not a father (पितृ) becomes a father = a man gets his first child"
**final -n drops off and the preceding vowel is treated according to the rules just mentioned **
e.g. राजीबभूव "one (who was not king) became king (राजन्)"
Other stems with multiple bases appear in the form of the stem they have in the locative (सप्तमी) plural. The stem then undergoes the usual sandhi rules. See Kielhorn, Grammar § 489,3.
e.g. तिर्यक्करोति "he places sideways (तिर्यच्)"

To express that a person or thing becomes completely what is denoted by a noun, or that someone makes something or someone entirely what is denoted by a noun,
the suffix -sāt (which never becomes -ṣāt)
can be attached and the word thus formed combined with the roots
into a verbal compound.
Examples:
अग्निसाद्भवति । अग्निसात्संपद्यते "he becomes completely fire"
भस्मसात्करोति "he transforms completely into ash (भस्मन् n. 'ash')"
Sometimes the suffix -sāt means that a person or thing
what is denoted by the noun.
Example:
राजसाद्भवति "he becomes dependent on the king, he becomes property of the king"
After formations with -sāt, roots are not treated as after prefixes; thus absolutive:
भस्मसात्कृत्वा
Word repetition in Sanskrit expresses:
Occasionally, a compound can be formed from such combinations
Examples:
एकैक 3 "each individual"
अल्पाल्प 3 "very small"
नवनव 3 "always new"
Regarding the so-called आम्रेडित compounds, in which inflected words are repeated, the second of which received an accent in pre-classical times, thus constituting a compound, see Wackernagel, Altindische Grammatik II,1 p. 142ff.
For topics not covered here, see e.g. Kielhorn, Grammar §201f.
The numerals for 1 to 19 are adjectives.
The numerals for 1 to 4 differ in declension across the three genders.
For the numerals for 5 to 19 (नवदशन्) there is only one single declension for the three genders.
For these numeral adjectives, as with all adjectives: they must stand in the same case, number, and gender as the associated noun and vice versa (i.e., singular for 1, dual for 2, plural for the rest).
Numeral adjectives:
1 एक 3 (declension like सर्व, in the plural: "some")
2 द्वि 3
3 त्रि 3
4 चतुर् 3
5 पञ्चन् 3
6 षष् 3
7 सप्तन् 3
8 अष्टन् 3
9 नवन् 3
10 दशन् 3
The declension is given at the appropriate place in the word lists.
For further numeral adverbs up to 19, see e.g. Kielhorn, Grammar §201.
The numeral words for 19 (एकोनविंशति "one less than 20") up to 99 are feminine nouns and are declined like मति f. or root nouns ending in -t (e.g. त्रिंशत् f.).
Examples:
20 विंशति f.:br
30 त्रिंशत् f.
The numeral words for numbers from 100 are neuter nouns. They are declined like फलम्.
Examples:
100 शत n.:br
1000 सहस्र n.
For the individual numeral nouns, see e.g. Kielhorn, Grammar §201.
The difference between verbal adjectives and verbal nouns for cardinal numbers leads to the following consequence for syntax:
See, e.g., in Kielhorn, Grammar §201f.
a) "-fold" (times):
once: सकृत्
twice: द्विस्
thrice: त्रिस्
four times: चतुस्
fivefold etc. is formed with the suffix -कृत्वस्: पञ्चकृत्वस्
b) "-fold" (multiplied): is expressed with the suffix -धा
simple: एकधा
twofold: द्विधा । द्वेधा
etc.
c) "each ...", "to ...": is expressed with the suffix -शस् (see above!)
द्विशस् "in twos, two each"
"-fold":
twofold, consisting of two parts
threefold, consisting of three parts
from 4 onwards "-fold" is expressed by the suffix -तय (f.: -तयी) चतुष्टय m.n. चतुष्टयी f. "fourfold"
Further formations should be consulted in dictionaries or grammars.
बहुव्रीहि of this type are formed quite regularly.
Example:
चतुर्मुख m. "one, who has four faces" = चत्वारि मुखानि यस्य सः (an epithet of Brahmā)

Fig.: चतुर्मुखः
(Bildekilde: Detaljer)
तत्पुरुष with a cardinal number in the first member must not be formed arbitrarily:
Rule 1: Words that designate a cardinal direction (such as पूर्व 3 "eastern", उत्तर 3 "northern"), and words for cardinal numbers, may form a कर्मधारय-compound with other words only if the compound is used as a proper name.
Therefore, for example, no Tatpuruṣa compound may be formed from उत्तरा वृक्षाः "northern trees" or from पञ्च ब्राह्मणः. However, a Tatpuruṣa compound सप्तर्षि m. "the seven Ṛṣis" may be formed from सप्तन् and ऋषि, provided this serves as the name for the constellation of the Great Bear (Ursa maior).

Fig.: सप्तर्षयः
The Big Dipper = the seven brightest stars of the Great Bear (Ursa maior)
(Bildekilde: Detaljer)
Rule 2: Deviating from Rule 1, a word denoting a cardinal direction or a cardinal number may form a Tatpuruṣa compound with another noun if
a Taddhita suffix is attached to the compound thus formed
Examples:
pūrva + śālā ("hall") » *pūrvaśālā (may not be used in this form!) + Taddhita -a » पौर्वशाल 3 "located in the eastern hall"
ṣaṣ + mātṛ » *ṣaṇmātṛ (not permissible!) + Taddhita -a » षण्मातुर m. "the child of six mothers" (= कार्त्तिकेय)
the compound thus formed is used in a meaning otherwise expressed by a Taddhita suffix (in this type, the transition to Bahuvrīhi is fluid):
Examples:
dvi + go » द्विगु : not: "two cows", but rather: "acquired for two cows"
द्विवर्ष not: "two years", but rather: "two years old"
the compound thus formed constitutes the first member of another compound
Example:
pañca + go » pañcagava (impermissible as a standalone word!) + dhana » पञ्चगवधन m. "one whose wealth consists of five cows"

Fig.: षण्मातुरः कार्त्तिकेय:
Jalakandapuram = ஜலகண்டபுரம்
(Bildekilde: Detaljer)
A designation for a cardinal number (but not for a direction of the compass) can serve as the first member in a compound with another noun to form a Tatpuruṣa, even if the resulting compound denotes an aggregate of several things, i.e., it combines two or more things into a single unit.
Tatpuruṣas formed according to this rule are called Dvigu (द्विगु).
Dvigu compounds that denote a unit are usually neuter. If the second member ends in -a, the feminine suffix -ī may be added. If the second member ends in fem. -ā, then either neuter -a or feminine -ī replaces it. If the second member ends in -an, then -a or -ī is substituted for it.
Examples:
त्रि + भुवनव् » त्रिभुवन n. "the aggregate of the three worlds, the three worlds as a unit, the triple world (heaven-earth-underworld)
त्रिलोक n. । त्रिलोकी n. "triple world"
Dvigu compounds to which no Taddhita suffix is attached, but which have the meaning designated by a Taddhita suffix, determine their gender according to the noun they further specify (they are in reality probably Bahuvrīhis)
Example:
पञ्चगु 3: "acquired for five cows"
अखिल 3: seamless, whole
निखिल 3: complete, whole
from:
खिल m.: fallow field, wasteland
