46.1. Formation of the verbal forms of the 2nd person (मध्यमः) Perfect (लिट्)

46.1.1. Endings

Note that the ending -- usually not the form! -- of the 2.pl.P coincides with that of the 1. and 3.sg.P.

Before -tha, most roots ending in -ṛ do not take a connecting vowel -i-. In some roots, the -i- before -tha is optional.

46.1.2. Sound change of the ending -dhve

The ending -dhve must be replaced by -ḍhve in the perfect if a root-final -u or -ṛ immediately precedes. This replacement can optionally occur after the connecting vowel -i- if a semivowel or h immediately precedes it.

46.1.3. Perfect Type I: no stem gradation

46.1.9. Periphrastic Perfect (अनुप्रयोगलिट्)

The periphrastic perfect is formed from:

• derived verbal stems (causative, desiderative, frequentative, denominatives), especially causative
• roots that begin with a long vowel (except ā)
• roots: Vowel (except a-)-Consonant-Consonant
• some others
• for some roots, both perfects can optionally be formed: uṣ "to burn", vid "to know", jāgṛ "to wake", daridrā "to be poor"
• for the following roots, both perfects can optionally be formed and also the periphrastic perfect is reduplicated, namely with the reduplicating syllable of the present stem:
• bhī "to fear"
• bhṛ "to carry"
• hu "to sacrifice"
• hrī "to be ashamed"
